Typically through exposure. It can be a test in a doctor's office for an allergy suspected, or a brush with danger in the real world.

I don't know of anyone who has died of a pollen allergy, but bee stings can be fatal if the allergy is severe enough. I don't envy the people who find out about their bee sting allergy in such a manner.

Dying from such a small thing would be pretty embarrassing. If only they had squashed it first.

Unfortunately, an attempt to crush a bee is often what incites it to sting. One of life's little ironies.

Perhaps the moral is to be kindest to the little creatures, especially the ones who have a single tooth, claw, or sting.
