Greetings and salutations. My name is Ortus Nigenad. I am a member of the Ninth House, in service to the Lady Harrowhark Nonagesimus and Gideon Nav. I may be identified by my sacramental paint depicting the Jawless Skull.

A fact about me is that I have written three collections of sonnets.

Have you decided yet if you will perform them?

I have decided I will participate in a small reading in Prufrock, at a minor venue.

As you were the spur of my inspiration, I would be honored if you and the Master Warden were to attend.

Of course, I'll ask him. Will it be new work?

Yes. I have drawn on the local environs and culture for my inspiration, so it differs from my past work in some ways. I am considering it an experiment, if such a thought does not do a disservice to the concept.

He is a companion of my Lady and of Gideon. I also reside in a dwelling near the one he shares with them.

What of yourself?

We are allies and peers. We fought together to stop the leviathan from destroying the city.

Your lady is Harrowhark Nonagesimus, correct? I suppose that means you know Teacher then. I am one of his students. You may call me Chara.

The great beast. I heard of this battle. You must be a warrior of great prowess.

You are correct about my Lady Harrowhark, and I know of Teacher. What do you study with him?

Is my speech so distinctive as that?

I suppose I should. They are quite brief. The sonnet is a constrained form.

What is the title of the film? I have been exploring the media available in this place. Most is vulgar, but some have been diverting.

[In other words: one that is quiet, with dim lighting and a sedate clientele, several enclosed booths in which a small necromancer might burrow, and discreet exits in case of discomfort.]

Why is it a jawless skull?

It is one of the traditional patterns of my House suitable to my station.

The precise origin of the skull is lost to us in our modern age. There are apocryphal speculations, but I do not give any credence.

I'm aware that it's symbolic, but being without a lower jaw would of course impede speech and the ability to chew your food. Is there some significance to that, perhaps that you are not allowed to speak freely or perform even acts vital to your own survival without permission?

[The stranger cannot know that their words evoke the faintest hem of thoughtfulness bordering on what, for Ortus, amounts to dry amusement.]

I am a sworn subject of my Lady Harrowhark, and bound to the oaths of my House and my station within it.

There is merit to the question.
