My name is either Harrowhark Nonagesimus or Harrowhark the First, depending on whomst you ask; for the sake of simplicity we may assume that you can all call me Harrowhark or Harrow. (Please do not call me Hark, for that is an oikonym.)
I am a Lyctor, once human, of the Ninth House of the Dominicus system. I am not very interesting talented at creating perpetual ash. Also, Gideon is my ca I am Gideon Nav's necromancer.
Hello, Harrowhark. It's good to make your acquaintance.
If it isn't too forward on a first meeting, I'd extend to you the same offer to discuss necromancy as I did to Palamedes--I am very interested in its workings.
[like objectively he is, but still, be gentle with the questions?? that's a Top Five Best Person(s) you are talking to, sir. this is a not here conversation held in private but still via silent expressions, by nerds.]
[ Harrow might guess that Gideon has managed to handle addressing this situation, but—on the other hand, it isn't Gideon's responsibility to take on the weight of Harrow's actions. Even if this one was technically spurned by Gideon herself. She can answer honestly and not look bad: ]
Yes, which she is.
I simply [ yes of course it was EXTREMELY SIMPLE ] paused the work at an earlier point in order to improve upon the previous generation's design flaws. Sextus and I had discussed doing so in a more controlled fashion before the situation forced our hands—but I was not willing to risk her to the extent of the original formula.
To be perfectly accurate, I suppose I am an incomplete Lyctor. A "Diet Lyctor" if you ask the Saint of Patience.
[anna considers just dropping a casual little ✔ Read. here but decides against it at the last second. she definitely takes note of that "dominicus system" thing, though.]
Oh, worm. Naturally you'd be here. Hold on, let me google what "oikonym" means.
All right, cool. Hey, Harrow. Welcome to the chaos.
My Omni dictionary gives me a definition that is not precisely the same as the Ninth's usage but it does come close enough that I believe you understood.
It seems to define the 'household' part literally as if it is something to do with a building—in my case it is 'household' as in 'family,' my father, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-grandfather are all [Two syllables]hark [Ninth arithmonym].
That was probably far more information than you actually wanted since you already looked it up, but it led to me doing so and discovering there could have been a discrepancy.
Hey, I know all about words meaning different things to different people. I appreciate the rundown. Figure yours probably has a few millennia on whatever we're working with here anyway. Arithmonym's new to me, too, but I can at least figure that one out from context.
Must be convenient to know who can roll with your House that way, though. Since, all due respect, Gideon's the un-Nineliest person I've ever fuckin' met.
She is that. She is the second best our House has ever seen, and the best who yet lives by far. Matthias Nonius come again; if you know Ortus, ask him for more information.
A Lyctor is—someone who was once a human necromancer but has undergone a series of rituals and completed a complex theorem-of-theorems (or as Palamedes would say, a megatheorem, which is correct but credit where it is due, and the megatheorem's rituals technically include figuring out the megatheorem itself) to become an ascended immortal being.

But odds are she's going to treat you fucking right so you better have the courtesy to do the same.

Do you have plans or ideas on how to complete the formula then?

I've seen you about but I don't think we've been introduced. It's a pleasure to meet you, Harrowhark. What is a lyctor?
